Established in 1985, The Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine promotes healthy and animal-friendly practices by working with policymakers, industry, the medical community, the media, and the public. Their priorities include conducting nutritional research, finding and promoting alternatives to the use of animals in medical education and research, and educating the medical community and the public about the nutritional benefits of plant-based diets. PCRM’s research studies have contributed significantly to the body of literature supporting vegan diets, and the organization has had a major effect on the USDA Dietary Guidelines for Americans. PCRM also maintains active programs promoting plant-based diets in the media, on the web, and in materials for health professionals.
