Movement Grants is our grant program aimed at building and strengthening the global animal advocacy movement. We fund groups working on various approaches to animal advocacy, especially those that help a large number of animals in countries where it is difficult to secure funding, groups that are testing new approaches to helping animals, and groups that support the health and growth of the animal advocacy movement.
Read on for details about the timeline and process for our 2024 Movement Grants. Please note the following changes to the program this year:
- We are removing the cap on grant size; however, we don’t expect our average grant size to change significantly, and our focus remains on emerging organizations and projects that typically operate on smaller budgets. Please consider this when applying.
- We are removing the lifetime cap on total grants so we can continue to support impactful but neglected groups for longer. Our long-term ambition is for the organizations we support to diversify their funding over time and become less reliant on Movement Grants.
- We are simplifying the application process so that individuals and organizations can only apply for general support or one specific project. We will only be reviewing one project or campaign per single application.
- Feedback for all successful applications and by request for unsuccessful applications.
- We are introducing Granti as our application portal and platform to manage our ongoing relationships with our grantees.

Process Details
Stage 1: Application
Prospective applicants must submit an application form by March 17. Please only submit one application per organization. If you have any issues filling out the application form, please get in touch with our Movement Grants Manager, Eleanor McAree.
We welcome applications in any language. Non-English applications will be translated using a digital translation service such as Google Translate or DeepL. While we do our best to verify the accuracy of translations, please be aware that AI and Internet translation services are not always accurate.
We will let you know by early May whether your application has progressed to the next stage. We receive many high-quality applications, so please do not be disheartened if your application is unsuccessful this time. If requested, we will provide you with feedback on your application.
Stage 2: Follow-up questions
If you are successful in Stage 1 and your application is for $20,000 USD or less, you will skip Stage 2 entirely and move directly to Stage 3.
If you are successful in Stage 1 and your application is for over $20,000 USD, we may send some follow-up questions to clear up any uncertainties we have about your application. Your responses will help us decide whether to progress your application to Stage 3 and how much of the requested funding we will provide.
Stage 3: Due diligence and grant disbursal
If your project reaches Stage 3, we will ask for backup documentation as part of our due diligence process. For example, if you are applying as an organization, we will ask to see your latest financial statement or tax return, your operating budget, and documentation showing that you are a registered charity in your country. You can submit this in any language, and we will reimburse the cost of professional translation into English if necessary.
If you pass these due diligence checks and your application is for $20,000 USD or less, we will confirm your funding by the end of May and transfer the funds in early June.
If you pass these due diligence checks and your application is for over $20,000 USD, we will confirm your funding by the end of June and transfer the funds in early July.
