Impact Evaluation:
Platform for humane educators
Factory Farming Awareness Coalition’s activities are tightly focused around humane education. Accordingly, our evaluation of this organization is tightly tied to our evaluation of their method of outreach. While ACE does not currently expect this to be the most cost-effective method, it does have some promise. Factory Farming Awareness Coalition is particularly interesting among organizations focused on humane education because they make their slides and materials available to anyone who wants to give presentations. This may allow them to spread ideas unusually well for an entirely-volunteer program. Their holistic approach may also allow them access to audiences who would not be interested in a purely animal-focused presentation.
Limited track record
Because Factory Farming Awareness Coalition is still a young organization, we are uncertain how well their model of encouraging volunteers around the country to deliver their presentation will spread. Additionally, their model of humane education, though currently common among animal advocacy organizations, is fairly new, and limited information about its long term results is available. We currently believe that humane education lectures are not the best way to convey values and messages to large numbers of people, but could learn more that would change our position.
